I'm starting to sharpen my knives. I had to unlearn what my grandfather taught me to use. So far I've had decent but mixed results. I switched to my cheap 200/400 tool stone from a port shipment for beveling when the blade was either damaged or not properly beveled. The 400/1000 grit stone in this set is soft. Very soft. I KO'd him a few times. This makes it difficult to maintain a constant angle. But these stones at this price are for learning, and for that they serve a purpose. I've played with several knives before and I know my technique is far from perfect, but I've managed to get sharper and sharper edges on every knife I've used to set stones. I'm trying to work on the consistency of pressure and blade angle. 400 bowling makes it tough, but I can still pull out a decent lead. I would say they are worth their money. take action. I took a dull Pampered Chef kitchen knife from totally dull to razor sharp in about an hour (chunky and error-correcting, LOL) of hard grinding. If you've got a badly damaged blade, grab one of those cheesy Harbor Freight double-faced rocks for some serious grinding. From there, these stones will work very well.
