DON'T WASTE TIME AND MONEY

Terrible - DO NOT ORDER! ABSOLUTE RUBBISH - buy oil stone - it's just blocks of clay! You'd better drag your blades through the mud. I've been sharpening knives for 45 years and it's a waste of money. When someone pays you to take their pocket money and throw away the stones! 1 star is too high!

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Everything is fine

Great starter kit for sharpening knives

Great price for a quality water sharpener kit. For a set of 4 stones I rather doubt that a better price can be found. They also have LOTS of tutorial videos and PDFs to help you out. This set will surely help you clean your knives. It takes time to learn how to properly sharpen knives. These stones will do their job. Proper form makes it repeatable and muscle memory. Start with a "fucking" knife, take your time.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than others

Great, but the leveling stone is missing!

Works fine but my kit is missing a leveling brick. It's a real disappointment when I go back to Revain to review my product, select it from the order list and see that it now comes with a leveling stone. Bamboo base, rubber feet and high quality stones. I bought plastic trays to hold the working stone and soak the non-working stone, turning the latter into a common storage box when not sharpened. How about you send me a leveling stone for the 5th star?

excellent stones, excellent price

My first set of sharpeners so there is nothing like it. However, $50 is a great price to jump into the world of sharpening. The stones are great and easy to work with. Managed to put razor blades on knives. It took me a few knives to get used to the process and sharpening and get better, but the stones you get work great. That is the secret. Take the green leather stop block. As great as the stone is, I've found that planing the knife after the fact really brings out the razor blade. And after…

rubbish stones. You get what you pay for.

Terrible Stones. Makes a huge mess every time I try to sharpen with them. They are too soft and I spend more time smoothing them than sharpening them. You get what you pay for. I don't know where people find value in such soft, useless stones. I have wood chisels that I've spent hours trying to polish and sharpen and these stones they literally won't cut. The surfaces are of course sharper, but the mess they create and the constant moving of stones is a waste of time and money. Spend $200 and…

It's all about technology.

I've been using these stones for the last day, they work great. Once you master the technique that works for you, you can sharpen any knife to the point where it can cut through newspaper. Tip: Make sure to count how many times you go through the stone on one side and how many times on the other side. If I know the knife is very dull or chipped, I usually do 100 passes on each side with 400 grit. I test the blade on thick paper and if it cuts through, I test it on newspaper. If it doesn't cut…

Pros
  • High marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • Keep Quiet

Excellent system for shaping, sharpening and polishing

With 4 stone grits this is a very useful system for sharpening metals that have no edges at all. With this stone I was able to sharpen an edgeless katana sharp enough to cut through a 2 inch piece of bamboo. 12" Carving Knife FAST and very SAFE. Using smaller sharpening stones can be dangerous if you have to hold the stone with your hand. Place the stone on a stable surface and with one hand grasp the blade and the other the Handle. The base never slipped. Adjust the angle for the blade and…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

DO NOT BUY THIS for hand tools

Then why 5 stars? I will tell you. Because the sheer volume of reviews for this product would have distorted my actual rating, which would have been 0. You should know right away that these are two stones with the same grain, just colored differently. I know there is no difference in texture or grit because I have other high quality Shun waterstones and bought them to sharpen woodworking tools, which is stupid of me. Aside from being colored stones of the same grit I can't tell you what the…

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

I'm starting to sharpen my knives. I had to unlearn what my grandfather taught me to use. So far I've had decent but mixed results. I switched to my cheap 200/400 tool stone from a port shipment for beveling when the blade was either damaged or not properly beveled. The 400/1000 grit stone in this set is soft. Very soft. I KO'd him a few times. This makes it difficult to maintain a constant angle. But these stones at this price are for learning, and for that they serve a purpose. I've played…
