You should know right away that these are two stones with the same grain, just colored differently. I know there is no difference in texture or grit because I have other high quality Shun waterstones and bought them to sharpen woodworking tools, which is stupid of me. Aside from being colored stones of the same grit I can't tell you what the true grit is. I'm telling you that 400 is a way to make up for 400 and 8000 is ridiculous. It's definitely less smooth than my 1000. It's all just a joke and should be $20. For $20, who cares if it really is the right decision, right? But for $50/$60 you think you got a deal. Actually it isn't. Take that $55 and buy 1 Combo Stone from a trusted source. Yeah, down a stone, but here's something. That second stone that comes with the kit seems sooooo worth it. It's the same stone. Congratulations. We can get drunk together and mourn our stupidity
