I ordered a large based on the size chart on the Horze website, I usually wear a medium size in half. My calves are 14.5 and my legs are 17.5, I converted the metric measurements to inches. Unlike leather this material does not stretch, the only loosening can be caused by the elastic and in my experience this takes a long time, I am usually ready for a new pair when the elastic has stretched. The chaps are a bit too big, I wear Ariat Terrain boots, so the larger size makes it easier to close the collar. If I was wearing regular paddock boots they might be a bit big. They are soft and feel well constructed and have become my favorite friends. I would recommend them, they are good value for money. I work in the stable and endurance is my sport so I really like that I can just toss them in the wash.
