Review on Tools 1923456 VISE GRIP Locking Multi Pliers by Jared Coleman

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great idea, mediocre execution

Overall: 1 out of 3 great tools. The position of the knife made me uncomfortable. The screwdriver should snap in place of the ball detent. It contains the tools I use most often in everyday tasks. The best working tool in the kit is a vise. As seen in the picture someone just screwed these other tools on. It just doesn't look like anyone thought through the location and function of the knife and screwdriver. Both additional tools work, but not as well as they could with minor tweaks to the tool. I was hoping this would stop me from carrying another multi tool but I feel I can't and now prefer carrying both. That's because the other multi-tool's screwdriver has a locking feature that allows me to tighten screws more efficiently than Irwin's multi-tool. Pros: A lockable vise often helps me with the tasks I face. The adjustment screw on the vise gives me very good control of the clamp. The screw is large and well knurled. Sometimes it's useful to have a knife on the same tool. The knife has a very strong clasp and I'm absolutely certain I won't fold it on my fingers anytime soon. The screwdriver holder seems to be standard so I can use other bits I already have. Cons: I wish the knife would face the opposite direction because the vise jaws get in the way sometimes. The pressure lock on the screwdriver is not strong enough, causing the screwdriver to bend if you apply a force that doesn't exactly match the screwdriver. For example, when I tightened the screws on my kitchen handles, they snapped several times. Not exactly a complaint: I wish the threads on the adjustment screw weren't so rough. This allows me to find a more accurate solution. For example, on many problems I've used it on, I'm already playing with a half or quarter turn differential. I would like the strap loop on the tool holder to have Velcro so I don't have to remove the strap to carry this tool in a case. The screwdriver holder seems to be standard, but I would like additional space to store different sized bits (e.g. in a case).

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • A few bugs
