3rd time the charm

This is GM's 3rd attempt to make this tensioner work. I just deleted the old one. (I sprayed it with PB Blaster a few times the day before.) Be careful not to rub it off, the head is very short. 32 million connectors. Then just screwed in a new one, tightened to 55 lbs and fired up. This seems to have eliminated the clicking noise. There's a lot of debate about whether you need to "activate" (loosen the piston) the tensioner after you've inserted it. Older models had to be hit from the inside to advance the piston. Some people say that you still have to open the upper timing chain cover and hit that new one before starting the engine to install (activate) it. Others say the new one is activated by oil pressure. I went the easy route and didn't activate it. Whether it was caused by oil pressure or a chain slap when I started the car I couldn't tell. Doesn't work, so I'm satisfied. Another problem is that the old one can fall apart when you take it out. I don't, but if so, I've read that you can just pop the parts out of the hole with a magnet. Others have said splinters got into the timing chain mechanism, but these people said they removed the cover first so it could have something to do with it.
