I received this item after receiving a similar but less expensive USB mic that was 'mic only'. This includes a fairly powerful speaker. The combination of speaker and microphone is called a "duplex" system. My goal was Zoom group calls with 5-10 people in a room. Using the laptop's tiny built-in microphone and the laptop's tiny speaker when we were sitting 6 or 8 feet away was poor. This fixes the problem. All cheap NOTE TO THE REST OF THE REVIEW: The included cable is about 4ft long, I used it with an optional 6ft USB extension cable (which is inexpensive) giving me a total length of 10ft from the laptop.1. Yes, it was instantly plug and play on a Windows laptop.2. I tested in Zoom Home Recording. The mic works well at 2, 5, and 10 feet. Please note that the system will increase the microphone volume as you move away, which takes 1-2 seconds. They still sound worse or farther from this mic, but that's understandable. Basically, it will be much better than yelling at a laptop with a built-in tiny microphone 10 feet away.3. The speaker is pretty good and louder than my laptop. Bottom line: if you have a laptop in one place and 5 or 10 people are 10 feet away, put this mic in the middle of them. The folks at Zoom hear us a lot better, and we hear the folks at Zoom better from this speaker than from a typical built-in laptop speaker. works pretty well.
