Review on WiFi router ASUS RT-AX82U, black by Kio Kun ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Full compliance with the manufacturers assurances, high quality.

* The router is healthy - by all measurements, it is twice as large as Keenetic Giga II. * The firmware at the start was damp - when Xiaomi Mi Box S was connected to it by wire, the router began to reboot periodically on its own. The problem turned out to be that Mi Box in sleep mode started flapping the link about once a minute, and after about 2-3 hours of constant blinking of the link, the router went into reboot. I fixed it by transferring Mi Box to work via WiFi, and then ASUS recognized the problem and released an ate. In firmware 3.0.0.4.386.41700, the problem was fixed (in release notes: "Client device reconnect, make the device to offline and online again.) Summary - very good value for money. Fast WiFi, really working ax standard, a normal gigabit switch with support for jumbo frames, the ability to build seamless mesh networks without dancing with a tambourine (useful in houses or large apartments), USB3 (it's a pity that there is only one port, but nothing, hubs cost a penny), the ability to reserve an incoming channel through a 4G modem or wire (but unfortunately it was "or", it was not possible to set up a reserve through the second wire and the modem at the same time, this is not MikroTik for you). A normal piece of hardware with simple settings for home use in standard home network configurations. According to the past experience of operating routers - if there was a router from Keenetic for the ax standard, I would not even look at ASUS. ASUS firmware is inferior to NDMS in all respects, from stability to flexibility and convenience of settings. But there are no Kinetics on AX yet, so we have what we have.

Pros
  • + WiFi connection speed - when paired with an EDUP EP-9636GS card, it gives out an honest gigabit + DynDns complete with the Let's Encrypt certificate receipt script worked without problems (the main thing is to carefully read the messages and follow the instructions)
Cons
  • - design. If you turn off all blinking, backlighting and shove it away so that it doesn’t an eyesore, you can use it - the piece of iron is, in principle, not bad - there is not and will not be OpenWRT. The firmware for Broadcom BCM6750 contains too much proprietary binary that the vendor is not going to disclose - print server on it is sooooo slow. It works, but the drivers on the computer constantly swear that the device is not responding. - poor compatibility with 4G modems. The Yota modem started up, but the Huawei 3372h did not work at all, although it worked without problems on the old Keenetic Giga II.
