Originally this magnet was used on smooth walls and it worked like a charm. Easier and more accurate than my electronic finger bolt. The magnet was held against the wall and there was no doubt that you had found a nail. Now I have walls with a slightly embossed texture and it doesn't just slide down the wall right into the material. It takes a little longer to find a hairpin and the magnet doesn't give the instant results I'm used to so it's not a game changer anymore but still a great tool for the price and simplicity.
