Review on πŸ’Ž Deluxe Jewelry Making Kit by Melissa & Doug with Stringing Components by Jeff Kickthedogband

It's pretty good for arts and crafts

My complaints first: Just because it's a bead set, it focuses on "girly" colors and themes. My son really likes the hearts and the color pink, but it's clearly made for "girls" and is completely free of "boys" colors and themes. My son loves letters so I chose this set. Of course, other bead sets I've seen at M&D were even more gender specific. The toy doesn't have a plastic lid to put it on and like every other M&D set like this lately I have to be very careful with storage or things will fall all over the place. How much can a transparent plastic film actually cost? The quality of the laces is pretty bad. They are very rough and not comfortable on the skin. In addition, two cords are used to wrap others as you can see from the product image. These two are permanently bent into a spiral shape that is unlikely to come out of use. This is due to the very coarse, inflexible fabric used for the strings. I'm looking for a good replacement. On the plus side, the holes in the beads are big enough for brushes (my son just loves putting beads on brushes), the fact that they have a lot of letters on them so you won't run out of the normal ones even if you put one several necklaces ago, the overall quality of the wooden beads is quite good and consistent, and the price is not bad. It's hard to recommend this product, but it's not terrible either. I tend to get really annoyed with the gender segregation of M&D toys in general and it hasn't helped their cause.

Pros
  • It's great
Cons
  • Some bugs
