I have two of these stations, the old model is grey. I hope they improved the reception quality of this black model. Note, however, that the two I have work the same way: they produce very loud noise on AM and HF. A strong local AM station will provide good sound, but you don't want to hear weaker signals as they pass through the interior noise. shortwave? Unless you are near a transmitter, forget it. I have two because I love the design and the sound and wanted to listen to an old cassette player. The "AUX" input on this unit is great for that. I also like the USB charging aspect. If you want its good qualities, go for it. If AM and shortwave are important to you, look elsewhere. This is an update of my previous review and I have found that none of the reviews I have read mention this shortcoming. If I only had one block I wouldn't bother. With two identical defects, I decided to raise the red flag. Maybe the new design is better.
