Works but won't last long

I've had a Genie keyboard, black model, for over 11 years and have had no problems with it. Then I moved and needed a keyboard for my new opener that is not compatible with the old model's keyboard. This will be the third keyboard of this version that I have had to buy in 7 years. These models appear to be smarter with Intellicode, but much less reliable. Both of the previous keyboards just stopped working, presumably due to weather as they don't seem to be properly sealed, particularly around the battery compartment as I saw metal corrosion in that area when I removed the old one. replace keyboard. But since this is the only model compatible with my Genie garage door mechanism, I have no choice but to buy another one of the same kind as there have been no improvements in the design of these keyboards. Installation is very simple: just two screws for the back panel. and snaps the keyboard into place on the back. Programming is pretty easy too. Simply enter the program code and then press the desired digits. Then set the opener to learn and enter the code up/down until the opener learns the code. The keypad has one function: when you enter your code, you can press any key for a few seconds to open, stop or close the garage door again. I'm not sure if this is a security mechanism or a programming bug, but it only happens for a few seconds after the code is entered. The keyboard works well for the most part, but don't expect it to last more than 3 seconds. Years or so before it needs replacing as it really isn't designed for long-term weather protection. 3 stars
