We are trying to upgrade our Axolotl aquarium and recently moved it to a larger tank. It doesn't fit in a coffee mug anymore so I needed a skin big enough for my cute little guy but compact enough for a bath. The dimensions of this tank looked perfect and it looked interesting, so I would definitely consider transferring it to the final version. I tried. I was a little wary as it is unsealed and stained. All axolotl fans say that fired terracotta does not react with water, but staining should be avoided. Since I do 100% water changes daily, I decided to do this. There were no jagged edges, so that's a plus for soft-bodied creatures. Our axolotl seemed to enjoy it very much and is unique in appearance. Should it be the landscape of an alien planet? It's currently about 7.5 inches tall and could just about fit inside. After a few weeks I finally pulled it out. The biofilm appeared to be growing rapidly - lots of biofilm. Not sure what to do about it now as I really like it but this amount of biofilm seems to foul the water quickly. I might consider sealing it. If you use this for land creatures that would be great.
