Snap, Sizzle, Pop good for me

I read the reviews on this 2 part package and everything seemed fine. A few noted sparks or shorting out. Well I installed mine (straight forward). Tested and everything worked. I put the shroud back on my fan and nothing worked. So I pulled the shroud off, turned off the power and checked all the connections. They seemed fine. Tried again and it was working. Put the shroud back up and again it wouldn't work. So thinking the shroud was blocking the antenna somehow, I pulled the yellow antenna wire through the shroud hole and while in the process of putting the shrould back on, it sparked, crackled and fizzed big time, and the ozone smell of burnt electronics filled the air.In doing a post mortem, all the connectors were still tight, so I was puzzled. I uninstalled it, put the original controller back and processed my return through Revain. Of course the single version was recommened so I looked at the reviews for it. And the very first review talks about the antenna cable being "live" and arcing to ground. I believe that is what happened to me. Here is the page with that review (it's one with pictures).https://www.amazon.com/YUKIHALU-Universal-Ceiling-Wireless-Receiver/dp/B07S5QGRH2?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1If the link gets yanked just go to the single version of this same controller and look at the reviews with pictures and you'll see one with an electronics multi-meter in it. So that is a bad design in my opinion and an accident waiting to happen. I'll keep looking for another controller.

Pros
  • Compatible with a wide range of ceiling fans
Cons
  • May experience interference with other Bluetooth devices
