There are about a thousand versions of the same flashlight and this was the cheapest so I went with it. You can buy batteries for it, but I don't see the need for it. It lasts forever on three AAA alkaline batteries. I've had these for 9 months now. I keep one in my rarely used glove box but I check it from time to time and I've never had to change the batteries. I still have one at home and use it all the time. I use superduper crappy "heavy duty" batteries that I got for free from Harbor Freight (Thunderbolt brand) and even they last a while. overall width. I tested it with the narrowest beam at about 600 feet and you can see it goes a long way, but it doesn't really illuminate anything, you can only see the light bouncing off the object. Also remember that at long range it's a perfect circle, but if you narrow it down it becomes a square, and at full narrowing it's just a tiny perfect square.
