Okay, first of all people need to understand that they are basically designed to mount chips on a prototyping board (or even PCB). They are much better than single chip sockets because they 1) are very well machined and make good contact and 2) keep the chip out of the circuit while leaving enough room to run wires between the pins, 3) they are much more convenient to be built according to the number of contacts. I added an image to show how I use them. Such a pleasure to run wires between pins.
