My aunt is almost 80 years old and has been suffering from memory problems for several years. So, as you can imagine, she doesn't respond well to change. Despite being old, bulky and worn out, replacing her Uniden phone wasn't an attractive option. As it stands, the learning curve for a new device will be too steep in its state. She might not even bother simply because she won't recognize the new phone and will keep looking for her old one - that's dementia. Thankfully, we were able to just replace the battery instead for a reasonable price, and she's thrilled to have her phone working again, ugly as it is.
