I needed a lightweight tripod for my upcoming photo trip. I spent two weeks researching tripods and knowing this tripod was "heavy" for a travel tripod (about 4 1/2 pounds head) I preferred strength over weight. The B-pillar, which is inclined by 90 degrees, also played a role. I bought a short (2″ long) $10 insert from a major online camera supplier that was made for the 190 series and also bought a $9 vinyl pouch to hold everything I need for the shoot. The original center column is great. light and I keep it in my bag, but for shooting from below I prefer to hold the camera upright and centered on the tripod for use on the ground. I already have a large (and heavy) Manfrotto tripod, which is very strong and which I own I was not disappointed with the 190. At some point, the extra 1.5 pounds of extra weight might become obvious, but I just wasn't comfortable (consistently) with the lighter tripods I've tried. With the D7100 and 150-600 lens this is not a problem.
