Review on Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Zoom Lens: Ultimate Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras by Hiral Yadav ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Matches the description completely, very satisfied.

Massive and apparently very strong metal construction with engraved numbers - the feeling is that it will outlive me. There is a slight falloff (dimming in the corners) on the FX matrix at apertures of 2.8-4 - but the proprietary software removes it easily and efficiently. An ideal lens for shooting reports, corporate parties, weddings, parties. For handheld shooting, you definitely need a hand strap: it significantly reduces trembling + hands get tired less / slower. Occasionally I touch the focus ring, knocking down autofocus - but this is nonsense. The lens is very large - with a lens hood on (adds only 2-4 cm to the length) it fits only into the largest backpacks: it did not fit on the D700 in Toploader 70 - only in 75. The lens is expensive - but when you compare your pictures with what people made at the same session with simpler lenses - you immediately understand that it was worth it.

Pros
  • Silent and fast. Minimum distortion + high aperture = the lens easily replaces a bunch of "fixes" and "zooms" simpler. There was a feeling that it works with the D700 without chromatic aberrations at all - regardless of the shooting conditions. The lens is easy to sell - even with a minimum discount, it is torn with hands (used)
Cons
  • the weight
