I first bought Aquasana bottles elsewhere and found replacement filters here. The product filters water and tastes good, but I sometimes wonder how hygienic the moisture in the filter is. For example, water flows through a faucet cleaner, but the water bottle you drink from contains some residual contents from your mouth [even if you tilt the bottle up to drink] ie "backsplash". So this content ends up in a filter to be used for some time. Soak the filter in water for five minutes before use; I'm not sure if it's ok to let it dry between bottle refills, but I did. Given the hygiene issue, I'm wondering if there's a way to disinfect it [with vinegar?] every few weeks. You have to rinse and soak it to remove that taste, but I don't know if that affects the actual cleaning effect.
