Many trainers recommend using a clicker and aim to teach a dog to associate a specific location or position with a reward. The Premier Click Stick with retractable target is great for this. The ability to not expand (like using a regular clicker), partially expand, or fully expand provides more flexibility without being clunky. The clicking sound is crisp and sufficient for a medium sized house or garden as dogs have much better hearing. The Click Stick is lightweight and fits well in my medium-sized hand. Thanks to the well thought-out shape, the clicker button is easy to find by touch. There is a clip to attach the Click Stick to a belt or pocket, but since the clip isn't tight I wouldn't trust it to securely hold the clicker in a light shirt pocket. The kit also includes a helpful instruction booklet that introduces you to the basics of clicker training, including how to get your dog to respond to clicks the same way they respond to a target. You will need training size treats not included to encourage and reward Bowser, Fido, Missy, Hey Stupid or whatever you call your dog. Once you and Fido learn the basics, clicker training can be a lot of fun. As a side note, if you have multiple dogs like I do, it's often helpful, at least initially, to work with one at a time so you don't confuse them.
