It took only a very short time to get this between the HDMI output on my Dell XPS-15 laptop and the DVI-D port on my Dell worked monitor 2001FP. The only downside is that you cannot control the brightness/contrast on the input of the DVI-D port, even with my monitor's manual controls. All in all, this cable provided a solution that allowed me to continue using my already existing, perfectly adequate, monitor without spending a lot on active adapters. Update: I found that I can control the brightness contrast of the external monitor when using the Intel Graphics Control Panel. and other color settings. As a result, HDMI-DVI-D is now my preferred display option, except when I'm taking the XPS-15 on trips.
