I decided to take a chance on this item

So despite the bad reviews I decided to take a chance on this item given the half price ($200) Some notes about me: I love steak . i love grilling I love smoking brisket. I have a Big Green Egg and a Rec-Tec Pellet Grill and use both regularly. When I make a brisket it's a big deal, people drive 140 miles one way to get it (I don't do anything fancy, I just use fresh seasoning and good beef to start with). My technique of cooking steaks on a cast iron stove is also welcome. I'm also tech savvy. I created a job on the original Macintosh in 1984, built over a dozen PCs and a few more Hackintoshs, hacked my WiFi in the early 2000s to provide a bridged network (now called mesh), and I run my personal website on AWS. I'm known as a problem solver. Before I retired, I was called a "Switch" because I could figure things out and make them work. I'm mentioning all this because I can't get this thing to work. I can not understand. There is a serious gap between hardware and software providers. probably due to poor search strategy. I expected the same from a 50% sale but thought I could fix the issues. I was wrong. It is beautifully made and mechanically beautiful. and finally it finds and maintains its target temperature. The unit I received was also exceptionally quiet (I used it in a large all-clad stainless steel pot with an aluminum core). The device was in perfect condition when it was first used. But then I downloaded the app and decided to update the firmware, thinking that the issues described here should already be fixed. no The firmware update rendered the device almost unusable. You can tinker a bit and get what you want, but it's crazy. The buttons don't respond unless they magically choose to wake up and do as you ask. And forget WiFi. Really, just forget it. I wish I could drop this thing back to its original spot, but I can't. It was responsive and perfect before I updated the firmware (as prompted by the app). I like the build and the performance. It looks like a quality device and seems like I could use it that way. But I wish I'd never updated the firmware - the promise of a Wi-Fi-enabled sous vide pot is downright stupid from the start, and their firmware update almost ruins the core of the job. One final note: if you're anything like me and enjoy the art of cooking meat - that distinct difference you get each time depends on the wood you use, whether you turn on the smoke, the time on each side - a separate piece of meat and then what does it mean at the table. You don't need sous vide. I think the whole process is getting the fire out of the food. this gives a great softness potential. milk toast. Learn to cook meat over an open fire, or at least over charcoal, and you'll never cook any other way.
