I have decided between this product and Kwikset Lido Push Door Hardware. I already had 4 Lido levers installed on my front doors so I was inclined to proceed with that. I had already ordered the Lido Castles when I decided to try them, so I had the opportunity to explore both side by side. curious how the Shelby levers were constructed. The Kwikset mechanism has obvious signs of wear. The Shelby clasp has a square metal shank, so I expect them to outlive me. Shelby had two additional positives that may not be significant, but I appreciate them and they influenced my decision. The first is the lock button on the privacy lever. The locking tab that you twist comes out a little further out of the Shelby handle than on the Kwikset, making the job a little easier. The second and more important consideration is the ability to unlock a locked door from the outside. The Kwikset has a hole where you stick a probe to open the door. The Shelby features a slot that you can insert a coin or screwdriver that you can twist to open the door, making it easier to open a door locked by a child or a potentially incapacitated adult in an emergency. Note: This slightly violates the security aspects of any lever, but in most cases respects privacy. For added security, I recommend a key lock or lever if needed, like on a front door. Finally, a small complaint and the resulting 4.5 star Shelby rating on the Kwikset is that the two Shelby set screws are visible on the latch side of the lever. Kwikset has a smart cover that hides the screws. It doesn't bother me personally as most will never notice or care. You only realize that when you think about life on the potty. Final Thoughts: Shelby and Kwikset feel solid, but Shelby seems to run smoother than Kwikset. The final nicety is that the Shelby looks great. as you look at it from top to bottom. Across the room, however, Shelby looks a bit thin; it doesn't feel fragile in any way, but aesthetically it could be thicker. Just a nitpick. The more I use Shelby levers, the more I like them. Shelby saves you $8-$10 each compared to Quicksets. Cost me over 200€. (19 levers plus taxes)
