Do not buy this compression tester

I bought an outboard motor that wasn't working properly and decided to fix it for use on a small boat. The first thing I wanted to do was check the compression. My old compression gauge didn't work because it was submerged in water a few years ago so I decided to buy a new compression gauge. Since I don't need it very often, I decided on this inexpensive sensor. That was my 1st mistake. I got this gauge and tested the outboard and only got 30psi compression on both cylinders. Since the compression was very low, I decided to overhaul the engine. I took the engine apart and found that the head gasket, pistons, rings etc looked in very good condition with almost no wear. So I installed a new cylinder head gasket and checked the compression again with my new compression gauge. I have the same readings up to 30psi. Then I got smarter and went to Autozone and borrowed a compression tester from their Loan-A-Tool program. I checked the engine again and this time the compression was 110psi. I checked it again with my newly purchased pressure gauge and it read 30psi again. I considered cleaning the outboard, assuming the engine block was cracked or other issues were preventing compression. Thank god I checked the compression with a reliable pressure gauge. This thermometer is junk.
