I was concerned that being aluminum they would not have enough strength to fit a rear view mirror to a 45 year old car with trimmed doors. holes . This worry went away as soon as I did a test run. These things hold up. I bet they hold tight enough to dent the inside of the door panel if I don't use a washer. It should be noted that if you are using a hand riveter you may not be able to break the mandrel. I'm not even sure if they should break, but in my case it doesn't matter since the mandrel doesn't protrude like a standard rivet. Once the "peel" is off and everything is tight, I can snap the mandrel and the backing will fall off. If you have a gap in the back (I didn't have one) you can just let the whole bar out the back. Overall I'm really impressed and so far their performance has exceeded my expectations.
