Review on Eheim Jager Aquarium Thermostat Heater: Optimal Temperature Control for Your Aquatic Environment by Carol Taylor

I bought this heater with high expectations as Eheim is (was?) one of the best quality manufacturers of aquarium supplies. However, I must now say that I will not be purchasing another Eheim product as the heater was defective and while there are manufacturing defects, the adjustment I received from tech support was the last straw. This heater allows you to recalibrate when the temperature of the water in the tank does not match the temperature the heater is set to. After the heater was in the tank for 24 hours, the water temperature was much higher than set, so I followed the recalibration instructions. After several days of adjustments, the recalibration ring was adjusted as far as possible, the temperature ring was set at 75 degrees, and the unanimous reading of the three different thermometer types was still 79.8. While I can always dial the temperature lower to get to my desired 78 degrees, the accuracy of this heater shouldn't be too far off, and I doubt its reliability. As for accuracy, this heater has one nice feature: when it sets the temperature (right or wrong), it keeps it accurate to within tenths of a degree. Replacing the heater considering I was only a few months short of the 3 year warranty. The answer I got was to factory reset the heater for 24 hours and then tell them what the temp was. Since the temp was already above the set temp, resetting the heater to factory settings would cause the water temp to hit the high 80s - low 90s. Not wanting to kill my fish (including a 14 year old clownfish and a 3 palm sized angelfish) I called tech support this morning and got nothing. According to the rep they will not honor their warranty unless I factory reset the heater and check the temp, but they will not replace my fish. Since I don't have a backup heater, testing the Eheim in a bucket is not an option, nor is returning it to them for testing. The representative I spoke to was rude, adamant and refused to let me speak to the manager as he said I had no reason. Luckily Revane came and offered to refund my money. Between the lack of precision of the heater and above all the complete lack of after-sales service, the new heater will NOT be Eheim!
