I just received this and have only tested it briefly, but sitting out in the sun using this umbrella I felt noticeably cooler - it's instant shade, basically. I also compared it to a regular lightweight umbrella. The regular umbrella filters the sun so it's more comfortable than direct sun, but this is definitely cooler than the regular umbrella. It is slightly heavier/bulkier than a standard umbrella of the same size, but not so much that I expect it to be a problem. The sleeve with velcro flap is a nice touch that makes it easier to get the umbrella back in the sleeve, unlike those where it's too tight to actually be useful.
