The product is delivered assembled. It is a beautiful, light-colored wood that goes well with any interior. The only drawback: If water remains on the surface, it quickly becomes moldy. This is easily remedied by scrubbing and rinsing in the tub, but I don't recommend placing shower essentials on top without placing additional shelves under the soap bottles as a barrier. For a freestanding bath this would be ideal and would require no maintenance. I have a tub/shower combo and it looks great but needs a weekly cleaning. The expandable arms are a plus for the size.
