I don't know how I managed without a hand sieve for so many years. I make a Low Country Congee (sausage, potato, corn, shrimp, and seafood) once or twice a month, and the pot is huge and heavy. It needs to be strained quickly once the shrimp are done to keep them from overcooking, but I always find it difficult to pour the pot through the colander in my sink. I saw someone using one of these handheld devices at a cooking show and immediately ordered it. The video says it all, now I have a quick and easy way to strain this dish. It holds a very large volume and is easy to handle. I've washed it in the dishwasher several times with no problems. Excellent purchase!
