Fortunately, it happened in the driveway and not in the middle of the bay.First, the diameter of the filter can is smaller than standard (3.0" OD), though the gasket and thread dimensions are standard. That means you can use the filter can (element) on a standard base, but it will leave a lot of the base exposed to corrosion in salt water.You cannot use a standard sized filter can on this mounting base, because there is no clearance to install and remove it. So you're stuck looking for a 3" OD filter can if you need to replace the element. Which would still be okay.But the first time I unscrewed the nylon drain plug from the clear plastic bottom, the bottom broke off at the threads, spilling gasoline all over the boat. Had it happened at sea, it could have been a fatal condition.Do not buy.
