I had several old kitchen knives and related tools with battered wooden handles. They were dry and rough, but not cracked (yet). I wanted to preserve them with a food safe product and chose Walrus Oil cutting board oil. He dived in immediately. I wiped off the excess after a few minutes. After letting them dry for 24 hours, I did it again, buffing the handles with a dry rag at the end. The instructions didn't say a second coat was required (limited instructions on the bottle and on the company's website) but I wanted to do it. The grips immediately took on a dark, smooth color comparable to newer, neater ones. Knife. In addition to better maintenance (no more rinsing in the dishwasher), the walrus oil has helped me save on a few knives and kitchen utensils. It was very easy to do.
