Rust immediately good for small appliance parts and accessories

[March 2020 update] The first item I received was rusty after the first wash. Right where the wires cross, as is often the case with similar products. Eventually Lodge sent me a replacement. I've never cooked with it, just washed it out of the box and air dried it. Rust is wherever the wires cross. I would not recommend purchasing this item. Very disappointed considering how excellent their cast iron products are. Look for a non-chrome, non-welded fry basket. It should just be a steel basket woven together, not welded. slotted spoon or mesh in the form of a bucket. I made a few batches of fries - put the raw fries in the basket, put the basket in, cooked, got the whole basket out, viola! Easy and fast. The basket fits the size perfectly with little room around the edges for circulating oil or a thermometer. The grid spacing is quite large to allow extra thin fries to slide out. The hook on the back that hangs the basket on the rim of the jar is too tight, to work with a dutch oven. I could probably bend it to open it, but didn't expect to have to. The folding handle seems handy for storage, but doesn't lock in place very securely. So if you turn the entire basket upside down to empty cooked items, the handle will disengage and flip up. This won't happen if you carefully tip the basket instead of turning it completely upside down. Time will tell how durable it is after repeated use and washing. Often the welds are weak and rust. Or chrome splinters, if that's the case at all.
