Does not run in the middle of the frame, but over it. I have a hand built low profile jack and the pad just failed and the rubber broke after a few uses. So I decided to give it a try as I used cardboard last year and it fit snugly on a 5 inch slab, but I still used cardboard to fill in the center of the slab because it wasn't curved enough and I am afraid that over time it will crack at the edges when the plate is inserted. Time will tell how it holds up, but in my opinion it's a bit pricey for what you get and it feels a bit slippery.
