Review on Sony DCR-TRV280 Digital8 Handycam Camcorder: Discontinued by Manufacturer, 20x Optical Zoom - Find Now! by Jacob Mayberry

I've been looking for a cheap 8mm video player with FireWire function for a long time. This camera ticks all the boxes. I don't know why Sony decided to drop 8mm cameras and cameras with Hi8 playback capability after this model. My guess is that Sony really wanted to push the Digital 8 market. My original Hi8 camera, which I bought back in 1991, died in 98/99 and both 8mm/Hi8 cameras and DVRs were crazy about prices and repairs back then . So I waited, but then the 8mm market died. Over the years I've checked the prices of these cameras and they've come down a lot. The folks at markmagnuson shipped this camera as advertised. I am very happy with the product, no glitches, works as advertised. I then order a FireWire 400-800 cable and then transfer all my videos to my Apple iMac. I was able to watch my home videos from 1991 to 1999. I am so happy with this purchase! That's why I'm having fun like 1999!
