Worked great on E53 (x5) 2006

I bought this unit on E53 (x5) 2006 with a standard MFA. MID has lost all display and key functions. Here are a few things to keep in mind: - This unit works best with "base" stereo models. If you have a DSP MID or NAV box in your E53 or E39, you will need additional cables. You have to cut a significant amount of plastic in the dashboard, which previously supported the CD player and MID. It's easy to do, but irreversible (I honestly can't imagine why you would need it. Even after cutting off the old system support plastic, the fit on the dash isn't 100% perfect. There will be some protrusion at the bottom...it is all plastic so you can 'shave' the bottom edge to adjust if it bothers you - The screen of the device has about 2.5cm of top vents - There is actually quite a bit left over in the dashboard for screws to fit The stereos come with a kit of brackets, however in my case there was no way to mount them even if they were provided I used longer screws to make some plastic left over from the old bracket - If you have everything hooked up and you don't have any controls on the steering wheel: Locate the bundle of wires that came with the small white 5 pin Adapter (it should have a wire marked "IR”). and CANBUS, also labeled IR (both wires are blue). only fits in one place), connect the male and female "IR" wire, and then try to operate the steering wheel. You have to work. The preinstalled GPS software takes up a huge amount of storage space (11GB) and honestly isn't any better than Google Maps. I removed it immediately. Overall I'm very happy with the device and it was a big upgrade over the old MID.
