Required to cross Canada border

I had to travel to Canada for a few appointments and this GPS takes my worries away. You don't have to pay for extra data to get directions on your phone; This GPS is there for you. Before purchasing this model, I had an older Garmin GPS. Note that older versions will ask you if you want to disable charges in the options menu, which should be avoided. This model will prompt you after you enter the address. It will say "This road has a toll, you want to continue or find an alternative route" or…

Update Update Update Update

We just got back from a trip to Canada and the Rocky Mountains and everything went great. The most important thing to know when buying GPS is to update it right out of the box. All GPS units are ALWAYS on the back when you buy them new or "certified". A lot of the other reviews I've read refer to the need for updates. Updates are not limited to maps. They are designed for GPS operating systems and are vital. This particular one has about 9 GPS software updates and a huge map update. It doesn't…

How can a GPS company go the wrong way?

After using Garmin navigation systems for several years I was surprised to find that this system couldn't be improved with a better voice and custom car icon. Garmin has closed the "Garmin Garage" from which these extensions could be downloaded. So this navigation system is forever connected with just a fully functional English voice and three or four standard car icons. The selection order for entering a destination address has changed in vain and for no apparent reason. The screen is full of…

Good and Bad Car GPS Navigators

This Garmin display is bigger than our old Garmin and we love it. Some display elements, such as B. the speed are smaller, but other functions have been improved. But one of the most negative issues is that you don't always get the quickest route, even with the GPS set up that way. I compared the route to my old Garmin and the new one added 10-60 minutes to the ride. Not only that, sometimes it leads you off the path instead of a direct path. When you travel thousands of miles, this is a big…

Read the fine print! No traffic data without a smartphone!

Bought this for my husband for Christmas and we are very disappointed. Why does Garmin think it's a good idea to require a smartphone to receive traffic information? I could also use google maps if I have to use my smartphone! The cable to receive traffic information (without using the phone) costs up to $60! My old Garmin gets traffic with no other apps and I don't think this 'new and improved' device is a step up. Update: We bought a traffic cable but it didn't work. We eventually found out…

Good but not great GPS

After borrowing my wife's Garmin Nuvi 1390LMT I decided to buy my own. I got the model 57 first and quickly sent it back because the screen faded too much in the sun. This one is better in every way, but I'm wondering why Garmin removed the ability to search by zip code. It was much better than printing city names. The next problem is that if you don't add a memory chip, the entire US map won't load. A Google search will tell you that finding places outside of your local tri-state region is a…

Downloadable maps are not working yet

I bought this device after carefully studying its capabilities compared to competing devices. One of the important features that led to my rating was the ability to use maps from other regions. To download a Garmin map to your device, you must use the free Garmin Express app. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this review, Garmin Express does not allow the installation of new regional maps on devices with a Drive 61 or 51. I spent several hours getting it to work (the night before my trip to

Waste of money Great big POS!

I used to have a Garmin nüvi 40LM. Had to replace it when the USB port died. I was very happy with the Nuvi 40 and as needed; Decided to try this Garmin GPS model. Honestly it's rubbish. Drive 51 very often doesn't tell you exactly when to turn, especially in rural areas. The device often only recognizes turns when you are at or through an intersection. Even though I had the device set to avoid the dirt road, it kept sending me onto the dirt road, especially in Vermont. The device often has you
