Large screen Distracts driver's attention

I have had many Garmin units over the years and they usually get better with time. The 61LMT-S has a great screen, and the road ahead at the top and the current screen at the bottom are very easy to read. Current maps also look good. The software was updated tonight. The optical driver warnings are an absolute nuisance. Garmin has to give a lot of thought to the ability to switch off completely. School zones, curves, railroad crossings, animal crossings and others block an upcoming street nameโ€ฆ

Why does Garmin insist on annoying and distracting customers?

There is a turning point. There are very, very many of them - and you will know that because the screen will keep telling you about them. This would be extremely useful on vehicles without a windshield. The rest of us can just look ahead to find out what โ€“ guess what, all the streets aren't straight, need a parking spot downtown? No? Too bad, because the display fills up with a "Can we find a parking spot" screen and doesn't disappear until you tap the touchscreen - and it reappears with everyโ€ฆ

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Waste of time and money!

I've spent so much time with this device that I'm hesitant to spend another second checking this damn thing. I bought this particular device for its WiFi capabilities. I don't have a computer, we use iPads and phones for our needs at home. Garmin does not download software or map updates. It gives me a message asking me to use the Garmin Express app on the computer. Em. why does it have wifi? Disappointed but wanted to try this thing out I rented it. He calculated that the route took me to aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • There's something to it

  • I doubt it

the map software became unstable over time

This is my second Garmin device. When I first received this device, I found it to be very stable and reliable. After several map and software updates, it became increasingly unreliable. Here are a few examples - it will take you through weird loops and back, ignoring the obviously easier routes. For example, after a recalculation, he added a 25-50 mile loop that deviated from the original route for no reason I could understand. Points along the entire route to avoid recalculating some weirdโ€ฆ

The best Garmin GPS I've ever had!

I was a bit concerned reading some of the reviews on this device. This is a new model, so it's reasonable to be wary of bugs at the very least or serious hardware problems at worst. Now that I've got the device set up and using it on the go, I can say you have nothing to worry about. I've owned several Garmin GPS units over the years and this one is by far the best in terms of useful features, screen size, screen readability, navigation prompts, etc. To ensure a smooth experience, make sure you
