Review on G-Porter GP-102+ GPS πŸ“ Data Logger Multifunction Device (Blue) by Mario Anderson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good value for money. Seems solid.

Advantages: Small. Displays time and latitude/longitude. You can set up recording at 1 second intervals. Has a large recording capacity. At least 42,000 samples. (Maximum not tested.) Battery life is at least 14 hours while recording. (Maximum not tested.) Sufficient water resistance. (Haven't tested it again other than hiking in the fog.) It seems to have good GPS accuracy. (Haven't fully characterized it in cities and dense forests yet. But its (Kalman?) filter is better than the Surf3 GPS watch I have when I'm at rest, and slightly better on the move.) OK: presentation as a USB stick. But the track data is in .FIT format. And other files are undocumented in binary format. Cons (all less important to me than any "pros"): Doesn't show storage capacity and current usage. The two-button interface is slow and boring. You have to press and hold too many times. There may be issues with the lifespan of the buttons. The user interface is not optimized for continuous recording at power-on. And not optimized for time/date/latitude/longitude display. When connected as a USB storage device, it does not indicate whether it is fully charged. Con, but I don't care. YMMV: Non-working PC software crashes on Win7/64. The documentation may need improvement.

Pros
  • High test results for hold and durability
Cons
  • Price
