Cheapest and easiest solution

. This was the easiest and cheapest fix to my C-wire problem to solve. I bought an Ecobbe4 and it obviously needs a C-cable. No problem, they have an adapter and the instructions look pretty simple and they also have phone support. The problem was that the instructions assume your air conditioner has a circuit board. Not mine, I guess it was too old. So I had to trace the wires from the thermostat and found that they were all just connected to the AC wires. No problem. The problem was finding a cable for 24 volts. With the help of ecobee support and their explanation of how the schematic works, it should have been the brown wire. But that didn't hold a constant charge and the thermostat reset every time it tried to turn off the air. So I said forget it and give it all back the way it was. I didn't want to spend $100 just for someone to come out and find 1 wire. So one day at Revain I saw this power supply. It was the perfect solution. My outlet is just below the thermostat. I drilled a hole on the inside of the outlet to route the wire to the AC cabinet, then routed the wire up and added another hole to allow the wire to go through the wall to the thermostat. After some trial and error I found that the negative wire goes to RC and the positive goes to C. Attached are some photos of the setup and how I connected my Ecobee. Hope this helps some of you.

Pros
  • LONG CORD: A 7.6 m (25 ft) cord allows you to run the cord along the wall and plug into an indoor or outdoor outlet. red HVAC wire attached), for Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd gen adapter, connected to C and RC pins
Cons
  • . I vaguely remember
