My wife's Dell laptop and Thunderbolt TB16 dock fell to the floor when one of our dogs ran under her desk and got tangled in computer cables. The result was a bent USB-C Lightning cable that didn't fit properly in the Dell laptop port, causing problems with an externally connected monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Not knowing that the docking station cable is detachable, I ordered a replacement Dell TB16 docking station. It showed up but had a dual-port USB-C docking cable that didn't match the Dell laptop. I returned the dock and researched the various USB-C cables that came with it. I realized I could just order the USB-C cable I needed and replace the broken one on the original TB16 dock. It worked great and saved me $200.
