Review on πŸ’‘ Gloway 240GB SSD SATA III 2.5-inch 3D NAND Solid State Drive for Laptop & PC Desktops by Mario Hinton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Serviceable budget SSD, but the instructions need to be translated and the guarantee is unknown.

This SSD can be a great upgrade for an old SATA computer. Compared to booting from a mechanical hard drive, this SSD offers faster boot times and vastly improved responsiveness. Estimated read/write speeds for this 240GB model are around 555/515MB/s, which is good enough for everyday computing tasks. Installation is as easy as any 2.5mm SATA drive, although screws, brackets, and cables are not included. (typical for SSD nowadays). The instructions are in Chinese, but mostly just mention connecting cables and securing the drive with screws. Gloway doesn't offer format recommendations or software for cloning an existing drive, so you're on your own. Luckily, finding guides online is easy enough. Gloway appears to be new to the North American market, and their inexperience shows in their complete lack of clarity about the warranty terms for this SSD. This section of the manual is in English, but the warranty period is not specified, and the wording is simply copied from another SSD manufacturer (changing the company name to Gloway). There are obvious errors, including references to the Gloway Magician Software, Section B of the Agreement, and datasheets - none of which Gloway actually provides in the manual or elsewhere. The situation is also not clear on Gloway's website, nor is it on the warranty page. only mentions their DRAM products. The back of the SSD box says the warranty period, but this is doubtful as the text appears to have been copied back from another drive manufacturer (who happens to be named, and not even the one Gloway copied the warranty statement from). his manual). Overall, this SSD won't break any speed records, but offers solid performance at a reasonable price. The unknown warranty is an issue, which is why it gets a 4-star rating (closer to 3.5, but rounded up because the drive is functional).
