I suspect the recent bad reviews have something to do with fakes being shipped from another seller. Much better quality glass, sturdy hardware that won't tip over when placed on the counter, and a good solid fit of all parts. This is a model with an alcohol burner, so be aware that it will last significantly longer than a butane or stovetop. version, but it's a well-made quality unit and my previous model (and didn't seem to have had any changes since I bought it from a Seattle store a few years ago) has lasted me a very long time with no problems. I doubt I would even replace it now if the original hadn't been badly damaged in the move and entirely my fault. It's not for everyone and there are better ones out there for the downright obsessive, but this is the best possible value for a coffee siphon. I would recommend this to anyone who knows what they are getting into or willing to take the time to learn how to use one of these, just make sure you get the original. Yama comes in either a plain brown wholesale box or a white and brown retail box. The glass is stamped by Yama rather than any other brand and everything fits together well and doesn't wobble when placed on a flat surface. The fake I received came in a box that looked like an advertisement for a coffee siphon with the advertisement printed on it. it had thinner glass and was stamped JAILE, and the hardware was so wobbly I wouldn't trust myself to use it. straight from them exactly what i have owned before.
