I've been using it for about a week and I'm very satisfied. The height is great, it keeps my dog and two small children in my bedroom. I think it will work well for stairs. My only issue is that dual stick pads are unreliable. 2 work well and the other 2 not so much. Maybe it's user error or something else, as mentioned in the instructions, turning both tension knobs clockwise at the same time. The grips on the right work this way, but the left don't, and the pads on the left don't seem to be holding their place. That being said, there are mugs that screw on instead of sticky pads and they do a better job of holding that side in place.
