Call Me Converted (by Stir Crazy) - Kudos!

Old [and now former] West Bend Stir Crazy user, my recent experience with [and the return] of their new device caused me to try this device with some skepticism. call me transformed The manufacturer has created a product that works well, looks good, has a fairly solid bowl, good instructions and some nice touches: - There is a silicone gasket between the hob and the outer rim of the popper. Prevents oil and condensate from penetrating the bottom of the unit. Should prevent oil from dripping from below over time. [And hey, this is an electrical device, so you can't submerge it in water or wash it in the dishwasher, folks. Just wipe it off!].- There is an on/off switch which is a good safety feature as you can plug and unplug the device without arcing/sparks/swelling. Can be left securely connected to the counter if you wish. - Built-in cord storage at the bottom with room for a plug. A bit cumbersome to use at first, now I've gotten used to it and just make it. - Smaller footprint than Stir Crazy - Unit diameter is smaller [it's larger] so less shelf/counter/storage space - especially with cord storage. - Popping seems to take a little longer, but better heating of the corn can contribute to the next point: - Good opening efficiency. We use Orville - a 2/3 cup popcorn fills the bowl until it rises during cooking - maybe 10 kernels aren't popped. One point: When the device is new, it still "gasses”, i.e. when you lift the lid, it smells like plastic. The smell doesn't transfer to the popcorn and it seems that keeping the block with the cracked lid [for ventilation] for a while, in addition to actually using the block, solves this problem. -to-describe stem that focuses on lifting the popcorn off the cooking surface versus the West Bend straight stem that mixes the grains more. I'm switching the original manufacturer's rod and a slightly modified Stir Crazy straight rod. larger batch of popcorn required <burp> :-) before I announce which popcorn (original or modified) is my favorite. All in all, very recommendable.
