So it definitely took me over 15 minutes but it wasn't that bad. I have a 2018 JLU and wanted to completely remove the stock third brake light. To do this you'll need to remove the spare tire, disconnect the 3rd brake light, and then remove the spare tire holder to release the wire holding that pesky plastic piece in place. After you disconnect the connector from the stock light, it has a black wire and a green/white striped wire. Use tape and connect black to black and red to white/green. The use of padlocks allows you to plug it in without cutting any cords and allows you to leave the original plug in place should you ever need to plug your old device back in. When you're done, wrap the extra wire with zip ties and tape the connections to keep water out.
