I installed Lubuntu Linux on an 11 year old Asus Eee PC netbook to use as a control computer for a portable digital ham radio station. It required GPS, partly for positioning, but mainly as an accurate time reference for weak signal modes that require synchronized transmit and receive. I took it outside and it quickly acquired multiple satellites, generated an accurate 3D fix, and updated the PC's system clock.
