I used these handlebars to get my hybrid commuter bike ready for long trips. Before these bars, I had a searing pain between my shoulders and had to lower the seatpost all the way down, resulting in more knee flexion. Before that I bought a corner clamp that raised the handlebars 1" giving me a total of 6" of travel. My cables have stretched but my bike hardly needs a longer front brake cable, yours may be different but if I had a longer one it could be angled back for even less arm extension. Personally I wouldn't mind a longer stem to accommodate it to get another 4 inches but i'm tall. I would have to replace all my cables to go higher, which I don't want to do now. One person in the reviews said they flexed on the trail, mine seem fine I only ride on the road but if you need tall bars for trail riding I would suggest something BMX style with a crossbar, since you are worried about the flex. You can drive fully upright, as if you were steering with your fingertips. With a longer brake cable A 95% longer stem requiring new cables would improve the fit by 100%.
