It's not that good

This is my first Ubiquiti purchase and I got it up and running minutes after it arrived this afternoon. It looks like a quality product and the power cord for the PoE injector is the most over the top I've come across. The packaging was great. I put this in my backyard because my two Asus AX86Us just don't get into my outside walls that well. I have gig internet and have seen about 20Mbps Up/Down in my backyard, now up to 550Mbps 20ft from this hotspot. . For comparison, my AX86Us transmit about 700 up/down over the same distance on the same WiFi5 client. It's not the speed that suits me, it's the signal strength. The transmit power is set to maximum and I'm at -60dB at 20 feet with no obstruction. Asus has -38 dB at the same distance. I wanted to attach this to an old satellite mast that rises above the roofline of my house to serve all of my possessions, but that just isn't possible. Glad you didn't bother. It's also stupid administration - you can't access it by IP address, you have to install their software. A real torture for people who like to tinker. Adding to that pain is that the control interface is scattered all over the place. It may be necessary to find a very simple setting. I need 4 of these to service both my front and back yard, one on each corner of my rectangular home. If I could slam one of my Asus's on the roof I'd bet it would be fine.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No instructions
