Review on PONPY Parking Reverse Detector Indicator by Bill Tripi

Revainrating 5 out of 5

HD quality: car electronics

Good: An HD upgrade from an older version of SD, but retains legacy cabling and hardware. My old one died after 2.5 years of use. This quality is much better, especially when you look at the light (the sun, the light from someone behind you). It's especially good when you're carrying something strapped to your trunk and can't see the right and rear mirrors for lane-changing on the freeway. The bad: No GPS-guided adaptive guidance, but that's not expected at this price point. Proximity warning isn't great, tends to be slow to respond - you'll hit something if you're relying on it alone - but better than nothing. Like many proximity alerts, it doesn't cover corners if you're reversing and turning toward a corner, which is also a blind spot for all cameras. So remember to look back too. Loud, I sealed the speaker with four layers of tape and all is well. Bottom line: I use this for curb alignment and accuracy of approaching something close behind <1.5m. In both cases I'm moving very slowly. I wouldn't rely on this screen 100%, maybe 10% for close range movement if you can't see that close behind you. For my Chevy Volt, I'd rely 80% on predictive advice, four bumper proximity sensors, and a wide-angle camera, but I don't want to poke holes in my Corvette's bumper. All in all the perfect addition to your car at the perfect price if you need proximity warning without drilling four holes in your bumper.

Pros
  • Ensure safety when parking. This parking sensor will also warn you through the bibi speaker as the distance is 2 meters.
Cons
